Arrival at the Château D'Île, the private estate and tea plantation of la Duchesse de Polignac on the island of Guildereim, where he takes up temporary residency as a guest of the Duchess. He is lent the sum of 45 platinum to pay off his pressing debts in France and to give him footing for his new life on the island.
